Whether you're an occasional recreational dancer or a competitive professional, dancers can experience a variety of relatively common injuries that we see in physiotherapy.
These are a few examples of common injuries that can respond favorably to physiotherapy and the reasons we might see them in dancers:
Ankle Sprains: When pivoting on the balls of the feet in heels or rolling an ankle, leading to overstretched or torn ligaments.
Achilles Tendonitis: Inflammation in the back of the ankle/heel from constant springing and foot articulation.
Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome: Stress to the kneecap area during deep bends and directional changes.
Lower Back Pain: From maintaining a rigid ballroom frame, executing dips, and sudden twists.
Shoulder and Neck Strain: Can affect partners who hold rigid frames or manage heavy resistance during turns and lifts.
Wrist and Finger Issues: When grips become too tight or partners compensate with weak joints during hand changes.
In support of the Edmonton and surrounding area social dance community, and an upcoming event being held by the Club du Soleil on September 26, 2026, we are happy to publish the following dance program for the upcoming Club du Soleil dance. The objective is to provide dancers with the opportunity to evaluate the program prior to the event and to follow the program on their phones during the dance.

The following will provide suggestions with respect to the dance styles that might be appropriate for the song indicated. In some cases several alternatives are offered and some of those will be seen as a bit of a stretch. But if the leader can lead it and the follower follows, no problemo. Hopefully these suggestions will allow all dancers to dance most dances.

Selection criteria included expected familiarity of the tunes to club members; hopefully the music will be enjoyable to listen to while you're resting.
